Preparing for Your Hair and Makeup Preview

Preview Basics

The hair and makeup preview is one of my favorite parts of the wedding beauty journey. After being in communication with each other anywhere from 6-18 months, the preview is the day we get to connect in person and design your vision.

I always recommend scheduling our preview around 90 days out from the wedding. I’ve found through experience that this is the sweet spot for a completely organized preview session. This is because by this time, you have most likely nailed down your dress, accessories, and other design elements. Though we will schedule the in salon preview 90 days out, our prep will begin much before that!

Part of the beauty experience that I like to offer to my clients is guidance throughout the planning process. This way, by the time you are in the chair, styling will flow effortlessly because we have discovered your vision and how to achieve it.

Build Your Skincare + Haircare Routines

Skincare and haircare don’t end when you leave the salon (although getting a fresh blowout or facial is lovely). It is so important to have routines for both your skin and hair that you can do at home! How you nurture your skin and hair at home will greatly affect the outcome of your wedding day style.

It can be confusing to know which products are right for you. This is why I will send you a hair and skin questionnaire shortly after booking. Based on your responses, I will create you a list of resources including custom product recommendations, ‘how to’ blog posts, and personalized colorist + esthetician recommendations based on your goals!

If you prefer a done-for-you shopping experience, I also offer custom Beauty Boxes that can be shipped to you.

Nail Down Your Hair Color & Cut Before the Bridal Preview

A skilled colorist will make a world of difference. As we design out your wedding day hairstyle, it will be important to consider the level of dimension you will want in your hair. It will then be my job to strategically piece together your updo, waves, etc to reflect this dimension. Although the photos on Pinterest all look so effortless, it really is very intentional!

Bangs. Can’t stress this enough! If you want front framing pieces, we will have to discuss your desired look and execute with a haircut. Sometimes even two, so that you have a trial period with time to grow them back out if needed. I’m including some photo examples below to give a better idea of how dimension and haircut can alter the appearance of your wedding hairstyle.

Gather Your Accessories

Grab any accessories you plan to include such as jewelry, hairpiece, veil, etc. We will incorporate your special touches effortlessly in to your final bridal look! This is when it starts to feel real! Be sure to wear a neutral or white top that is closest in shade to your wedding gown.

Relax & Enjoy!

This is the most important step! It sounds corny but I promise it’s true. Everything is going to be amazing, and I can’t wait to help bring your vision to life. After the bridal preview, we will have the blueprint for the wedding morning. All that’s left to do is enjoy the morning with your loved ones and soak in all the good vibes before saying ‘I do’!
